Liverpool's Premier League and Champions League hopes 'hinge on two players'. Liverpool remain right in the hunt for a stunning Premier League and Champions League double.
Jurgen Klopp's side are top of the Premier League table as they target a first top-flight success since 1990 whilst their last-16 European clash with Bayern Munich is delicately poised.
The Anfield club are set for a blockbuster end to what has already been a memorable season - and club legend Steve Nicol believes two of their shrewd summer signings hold the key to their success.
He also reckons their early exits from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup show the intention of club bosses to win major trophies and not settle for anything less.
“If all they [the owners] wanted to do was win a trophy then they would go down and knock on Klopp’s office door and say ‘look, we need a trophy, so when we play in the FA Cup or the League Cup, then we want to win it and that will kick us off’,” Nicol said.
“But they haven’t done that. The owners and Klopp are all about the Premier League and the Champions League.
“And I think we’re beginning to see that, certainly from last year and now this year with Liverpool sat top of the league.
“I think they did that [change their transfer approach].
“They did that when they signed Van Dijk and when they signed Alisson Becker in goal.
“I think that has catapulted them into the realms of anybody in the world, including your Barcelonas and your Real Madrids, that play Liverpool, have to take notice.
“Liverpool are the real deal now.
“Liverpool have as good an opportunity this season to win the double, to win the Champions League and the Premier League, as much as any other team around the world.”
The Reds host Watford tonight in the Premier League as they aim to keep their spot at the top of the table.
